Life is a phenomenon that can emerge and be sustained in environments that had been thought of as too extreme for survival. Organisms sustained by energy sources that do not include light are found in many “inhospitable” Earth locations. It has been assumed that life might exist on earthlike exoplanets, but life’s ability might extend beyond the goldilocks zone, and even to the large number of still undetected planets that are known to be freely roaming space away from stars. Life appears to be a far more ubiquitous phenomenon than previously thought, hence with increased likelihood of evolved extraterrestrial intelligence.
Key words: origin of life, extremophiles, rogue planets, extraterrestrial life, exoplanets
