SCIENTIFIC COALITION FOR UAP STUDIES HONORS DR. KEVIN KNUTH WITH INAUGURAL DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR AWARD AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Held in Huntsville, Alabama, the conference drew record attendance, explored foundational approaches to UAP science.

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, June 27, 2025 / -- The Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU) is proud to announce that Dr. Kevin Knuth has been awarded the inaugural SCU Distinguished Scholar Award in recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to the scientific study of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP).

The award was presented at SCU’s Sixth Annual Conference, held June 6–8 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama, and livestreamed to registrants globally. The 2025 SCU Conference was the organization’s largest and most successful to date, attracting nearly 300 in-person and virtual attendees from ten countries. The event received high praise for its in-person location and highly engaged online participation and collaboration.

Dr. Knuth, who accepted the award in person, is a Professor of Physics at the University at Albany (SUNY) and a former NASA research scientist specializing in information physics, which he applies to topics in astrophysics, Bayesian studies, robotics, and UAP. His publications, talks, seminars, and field research have played a critical role in bringing academic legitimacy to the study of UAPs. Among his notable works are the widely cited 2019 paper, Estimating Flight Characteristics of Anomalous Unidentified Aerial Vehicles,” and the recent comprehensive review, “The New Science of Unidentified Aerospace-Undersea Phenomena (UAP),” which brings together thirty-four authors and was published in Progress in Aerospace Sciences.

“Dr. Knuth’s leadership in advancing empirical, interdisciplinary UAP research exemplifies the mission of SCU,” said Rich Hoffman, SCU Executive Board member, during the award presentation. “He has helped open new pathways for serious academic inquiry and collaboration on this complex subject.”

Over the course of three days, 21 distinguished experts delivered presentations on topics including scientific field instruments and machine learning, new metrics for studying historical reports, law enforcement training for UAP investigations, and a forensic case analysis. Conference presentation recordings are expected to be available on SCU’s YouTube channel later this year, further expanding access to researchers, students, and the public.
