FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE; April 12, 2021
Recent statements by high level government officials indicate that Unidentified Aerial
Phenomena (UAP) have penetrated national airspace and it is a national concern. The
former Director of National Intelligence (DNI), John Ratcliff, recently stated that UAP
“...have been picked up by satellite imagery that frankly engage in actions that are
difficult to explain. ” The U.S. Navy, with all of its investigative capabilities, publicly
noted that the identity and source of these objects remain unknown. The Navy has also
admitted that they have additional information on UAP that has been classified as
SECRET and TOP SECRET. In light of all these events, the Senate Select Committee on
Intelligence (SSCI) has requested a report from the DNI and the Secretary of Defense
regarding what is known about UAP that have overflown our military facilities.
Scientists from the SCU have petitioned Congress, specifically the SSCI, to release more
information on UAP to the scientific community. The SCU believes that it is time to
initiate rigorous, scientific analysis of all available UAP data in order to enhance ongoing
intelligence assessments. A copy of this letter addressed to the Chairman of the SSCI,
Mark Warner, and the Ranking Member, Marco Rubio, is attached. Fifty-five SCU
members have signed the request. Their names have been redacted in the public letter for privacy reasons.
